Open mesh floors.....Galvanised Vs Stainless Steel.

 

Galvanised has been used extensively in recent years, low cost and easy to cut. It lead to a revolution in beehive flooring, but epoxy coated material melts under a blow torch, toxic fumes also present a hazard. Once the coating has melted the galvanised  steel is exposed.

Stainless Steel has far better resistance to blowtorch and folic acids when cleaning the mesh floors. Although stainless steel is more expensive, it presents better value for money long term, outlasting the galvanised many times.

8 Mesh is ideal for open mesh floors. The open area or aperture size is perfect for the Verroa mite to drop through. UK Ministry of Agriculture claim 40-60% of Verroa can be removed this way. Open mesh floors also help with the ventilation of the hive.
